Birds
James is a seasoned birder. He has watched, identified, listened to and studied birds since he was a boy in Edinburgh. He ran his school Ornithology Society as a teenager, went on several expeditions to monitor and ring birds across Europe and has maintained this level of interest ever since during numerous self-organised expeditions in Scotland, Africa, America, north-western Asia and eastern Europe. James has written many articles on birds over the last 20 years, is a volunteer bird recorder for Natural England in his local patch and has been involved in a number of bird counts and bird behaviour studies over the past 30 years, on species such as shelduck, lesser-spotted woodpecker and summer migrants. He currently runs bird awareness walks and conducts bird song recognition sessions near his home in Gloucestershire.
